pat garrett and billy the kid

david thomson:

The more that emerges on Peckinpah the man, the clearer it is that he was in brazen pursuit of his own fantasies — and expecting others to pay for it. A very dangerous man, because he could be so damn good. Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid makes Clint Eastwood look like a carpetbagger.

an affecting film no matter how butchered. aint no simple thing to say id take this over mccabe & mrs miller but i would; always been struck more by honor and decency among men than by matters of the heart.

Did you watch both versions included on the most recent dvd? I’ve gotten to the point where I can put either version on, in the background, like music (of course, the Bob Dylan soundtrack helps). I like it more than The Wild Bunch now which wasn’t always the case.

Does that one contain the scene with Pat Garrett’s wife? I can’t keep the versions straight anymore. The two versions on the most recent dvd are worth watching because they both contain scenes not in the other.
